How to Install Clapboard Siding

Clapboard Handling Instructions:

1. Product must be kept dry at all times prior to installation. Avoid ground contact.

2. Elevate the product a minimum of 6” off the ground or floor to allow for air circulation.

3. Place a vapor barrier under the unit to minimize moisture absorption.

Clapboard Installation Instructions:

1. Avoid excessive moisture in the building. Provide building ventilation from the inside to the outside
such as continuous soffit vents and a continuous ridge vent system.

2. Clapboard must be installed over dry (19% or less moisture content) framing and sheathing.

3. Clapboard should be installed over a building code approved exterior house wrap such as Typar.
A rain screen can be an effective method in reducing potential moisture.

4. Clapboard should not be installed within 6” of the ground. Avoid direct contact against cement,
brick, or asphalt.

5. Product must be fastened using an appropriate corrosive resistant fastener such as stainless steel
siding nails that are driven flush to the substrate surface. Avoid double nailing and sinking the
fastener head beyond the substrate flush surface. When using pneumatic fasteners, please set
pressure to make certain fastener is flush to the surface. Immediately coat fastener heads with a
high quality alkyd oil primer.

6. Any installation practice (nailing, cutting, etc.) which results in breaking of the factory coating
requires that the exposed areas be immediately resealed with a high quality alkyd oil primer.

7. All avenues for water intrusion should be immediately caulked with a high performance acrylic
exterior caulk.

8. When applying a topcoat, follow coating manufacturing instructions. It is best to apply two coats
of top quality 100% acrylicclapboard cedar ciding
