| How to Install Clapboard Siding Clapboard Handling Instructions: 1. Product must be kept dry at all times prior to installation. Avoid ground contact. 2. Elevate the product a minimum of 6” off the ground or floor to allow for air circulation. 3. Place a vapor barrier under the unit to minimize moisture absorption. Clapboard Installation Instructions: 1. Avoid excessive moisture in the building. Provide building ventilation from the inside to the outside • such as continuous soffit vents and a continuous ridge vent system. 2. Clapboard must be installed over dry (19% or less moisture content) framing and sheathing. 3. Clapboard should be installed over a building code approved exterior house wrap such as Typar. • A rain screen can be an effective method in reducing potential moisture. 4. Clapboard should not be installed within 6” of the ground. Avoid direct contact against cement, • brick, or asphalt. 5. Product must be fastened using an appropriate corrosive resistant fastener such as stainless steel • siding nails that are driven flush to the substrate surface. Avoid double nailing and sinking the • fastener head beyond the substrate flush surface. When using pneumatic fasteners, please set • pressure to make certain fastener is flush to the surface. Immediately coat fastener heads with a • high quality alkyd oil primer. 6. Any installation practice (nailing, cutting, etc.) which results in breaking of the factory coating • requires that the exposed areas be immediately resealed with a high quality alkyd oil primer. 7. All avenues for water intrusion should be immediately caulked with a high performance acrylic • exterior caulk. 8. When applying a topcoat, follow coating manufacturing instructions.
